About Me

cropped-cropped-20180912_151339Persuasive. Curious. Practical.

I like consistency yet I’m curious enough to to try new approaches and explore different options, with a bit of restraint though. I’ve no desire to go bungie jumping and I doubt I’d ever dye my hair yellow. But, unleash me in a kitchen and watch creativity and wild abandon take over.

I enjoy reading historical novels, biographies and urban fiction. I enjoy people watching and staying up-to-date on fashion trends. Cooking, home decorating, flower gardening, and touring museums – especially history and craft centers – excite me.

My first official job at age 17 was in a museum. Little did I know that experience would circle back around to a 30+ year career in the museum field. I’ve met and interviewed world leaders and cultural icons including the 14th dali lama, Nelson Mandela, Colin Powell, Bono, Oprah Winfrey, Marlo Thomas, Barbara Jordan, George W. Bush and Bill Clinton.  These recordings reside in the archives of the National Civil Rights Museum.

Since 2015 I’ve had the time to pursue personal interests in community-based youth empowerment projects, personal fitness activities, and spend quality time with family. Always on the lookout for the next good adventure, I’m currently enjoying being back in the classroom at the University of Memphis taping into my passion for writing. Stay posted to see what’s next on Barbara’s Musings.
